Development Update #1 – Combat System Takes Shape

The world is starting to become more dangerous, and that means combat needs to feel engaging, responsive, and rewarding. Over the past weeks, we've been working on the foundations of Valedorn's combat system, focusing on mechanics that make every encounter feel more tactical while keeping the gameplay smooth and immersive.
Here's a look at some of the systems currently in development.
Dynamic Combat Camera
Exploration and combat should feel different.
During exploration, the game uses its classic isometric camera, giving you a clear view of the world around you. As soon as combat begins, the camera smoothly moves closer to your character, creating a more immersive perspective and giving battles a stronger sense of impact.
This closer camera makes it easier to read enemy movements, aim abilities, and cast spells with greater precision. It also allows the game to highlight your current opponent during important moments, helping you stay focused in the middle of the fight.
Once combat ends, the camera naturally returns to its original isometric position, allowing you to continue exploring without interruption.
Z-Target Lock System
Combat is all about control, and every player has a preferred way to fight.
Our Z-Target system lets you decide whether you want to lock onto an enemy or fight freely. When target lock is enabled, the camera stays focused on your selected opponent, making melee combat, dodging, and ability usage feel much more intuitive.
At any moment, you'll be able to switch targets to another nearby enemy, giving you full control over the flow of battle.
Whether you prefer precise one-on-one duels or a more dynamic combat style, the choice will always be yours.
Enemy Vulnerabilities & Resistances
Not every enemy should be defeated the same way.
Each creature in the world will have its own strengths, weaknesses, and resistances based on its nature. Understanding your opponent will often be just as important as having powerful equipment.
For example, a stone golem won't take significant damage from slashing weapons, but crushing attacks may prove much more effective. Likewise, other enemies may resist certain elements while being highly vulnerable to others.
Experimenting with different weapons, damage types, and abilities will be an important part of overcoming tougher encounters.
Choosing the right strategy can make all the difference.
Skill Progression
Every character should feel unique.
Each class will have a wide selection of abilities that players can unlock and improve throughout their journey. Skills won't simply become stronger—they'll evolve alongside your character, opening new possibilities and encouraging different playstyles.
Whether you want to focus on devastating offensive attacks, powerful defensive techniques, or versatile utility abilities, you'll be free to build your character around the combat style you enjoy most.
No two heroes need to follow the same path.
Looking Ahead
These mechanics are only the beginning of the combat system. We're continuing to develop new abilities, enemies, animations, visual effects, and gameplay improvements that will make every battle more exciting and rewarding.
As development progresses, we'll continue sharing more behind-the-scenes updates and showcasing the evolution of Valedorn.
Thank you for following our journey—we can't wait to show you what's coming next.
